e·thos

/ˈēTHäs/
noun: ethos
the characteristic spirit of a culture, era, or community as manifested in its beliefs and aspirations.

What inspires us? What is at the base of our beliefs?  The short answer is good beer.  But, there is more to our personal ethos here at Subculture.  Good beer is the beginning.

We strive for well made beer that is expressive. Our beers are more than flavors and aromas in a glass; but instead something that can define an experience, time, and place.  At Subculture, we make beers that are held to the highest standards.  There is a tremendous amount of thought and energy that goes into every beer we craft - and we strive to share that effort with you.

Our beers are for everyone with an open mind and willing palate.  But, we understand that there is a sub-group of people that are wildly enthusiastic about beer and what beer can be.  We make beer for that sub-culture of people looking for unique innovative beers.

Subculture's ethos encompasses more than just what happens on the brewery floor and in our tanks.  We pay attention to the details.  We want to ensure that once our beer leaves our brewhouse tanks - that its integrity is maintained and that you are receiving our beers just as we intended them to taste.  We try to achieve this through many facets:

Education & Training

All of our team members in the Subculture family are Cicerone certified beer servers. And, each member of the team is passionate about beer and enthusiastic to share knowledge about the beers we make here at Subculture.

Glassware

We believe that the vessel you serve beer in, is often just as important as what is inside. At Subculture we understand the importance of glassware that encourages lively aromas and flavors that provide the best presentation for our customers. In our taproom you will find an array of different glassware specific to the beer you are drinking. We also employ a proper pour that encourages 1-2 fingers worth of well formed beer foam - which helps release the aromatics of the beer.

Properly Served

Serving you the beer as intended is our goal. We ensure that, by first inspecting that the glass is free of any chips, debris, or lipstick. We then use a glass acclimator to rinse away any residual sanitizer from the cleaning process. The only thing we want you tasting or smelling in our glasses is the beer we put inside it.

Informative packaging

If you're not drinking with us at the brewery, we provide information about the beer right on the bottle or can that will help ensure that you're getting the next best experience (other than drinking with us). On the beer's label, you'll find a suggested serving temperature and glass. If you don't have a good drinking vessel, we sell branded logo glasses in our taproom. If you're drinking something hoppy - we provide date codes for all of our beer to help make sure that you are drinking that nectar fresh. If you're drinking one of our non-hoppy beers, some bottles or cans will indicate that they can be cellared - although if you decide to cellar some of our beers, we encourage you to try a bottle fresh so that you have something to compare a cellared version against.
